IDG 1362 Introduction to user-centered design. Student assistants

Description:

Institute for design, Gjøvik needs 5 student assistants in the course «Introduction to user-centered design». From the course description «The core of this course is to introduce the students for Design Thinking and they will learn to use it by identifying a problem or a need in a software interface for a defined group of users. The students will then develop suggested solutions through using creative techniques and make sketches and prototypes and in a systematic way, test these solutions on the primary users of the software.»

Each student assistant will assist groups of students for the duration of the course. It is the responsibility of the students to contact the assistant and schedule regular meetings (around 20/30 minutes per week per group). The main role of the assistants is to support the students in the use of the literature and choice/executions of the design methods. It is also important that the assistant will aid the comprehension of the assignments and work as an intermediary with the course lecturer to raise issues from each group. The assistant will have regular meeting and/or communications with the course lecturer to be updated on the course status and to report issues in the groups

Student assistants should be 2nd or 3rd year students at BWU, BIXD or BMED. It is an advantage if the student assistant has been through the topic “Design thinking”, and a requirement that the student has provable knowledge related to user centered design methods, with at least a B as a grade. The assistant must speak English as the teaching and deliveries are in English. It is advantageous that he or she can also speak Norwegian.

The work will vary in scope and has a limit of at least 60 hours per assistant per semester. Some hours of work each week will be necessary (minimum 2h).

The position is paid nok 159,40 per hour + vacation money (feriepenger). The salary will increase if the student has learning assistant training (LAOS
